SARS has recently announced that they will file your return for you! Because they have access to already provided information on their system. But with that said, there shouldn’t be any changes since your previous filed return.
For example: If you started earning a rental income during the new financial year, that will not form part of the simulated calculation, you will need to file your return.
Other than that all other 3rd party information will pull through to your profile automatically. Like medical aid, annuity fund contributions, pension fund etc.
Should you be identified by SARS as part of this group you will receive an SMS indicating the following:
“Dear Taxpayer, SARS has done a simulated calculation based on information that we have received from your employer and other sources. The outcome of the calculation is R4.23. According to us, you do not have to file a return.”
Our advice would be to still file your return to ensure you maintain an unbroken filing history with SARS.
